Client stories

Comments and longer notes from UK programmes that commissioned lifecycle measurement, churn diagnostics, or cohort reviews.

“They rebuilt our renewal cohort from first payment date instead of calendar month. The churn spike we feared turned out to be a grace-period artefact — and we stopped chasing the wrong list.”
Helena M. Membership director, national trade association · Lifecycle Measurement Audit
“Useful work, though the first draft assumed we had cleaner payment logs than we did. Once they adjusted for our batch billing, the signal ranking made sense.”
James K. Finance lead, regional media club · Churn Signal Diagnostic
“Our annual renewals were being treated as monthly leavers. The cohort review gave membership and finance one shared calendar. I would have liked the written pack a week earlier ahead of board papers, but the content held up under questioning.”
Priya S. Operations chair, professional institute · Renewal Cohort Review
“We keep them on the quarterly retainer mainly for the renewal-window checks before our big intake months. Quiet, precise, and they challenge soft definitions.”
Owen T. Subscriber operations, consumer magazine group

Two programmes in more detail

Trade association · 22,000 annual members

The association reported rising churn after a dues increase. Lifecycle measurement showed that most “leavers” were failed Direct Debits inside a fourteen-day grace window that membership did not treat as recoverable. After redefining the cohort and bringing payment retries into the renewal calendar, the voluntary cancel rate for the next intake stayed within the prior year’s band.

Regional media club · mixed monthly and annual plans

Finance measured active subscribers on invoice date; the desk used last login. The Churn Signal Diagnostic reconciled both views, then ranked precursors: skipped gift renewals and expired corporate seats outweighed content-engagement scores. Outreach lists were rebuilt around those two signals for the following quarter.
